Wayne Rooney has said that it was a "great story" for his Manchester United teammate Marcus Rashford to have played for England at Euro 2016.
Rashford broke Rooney's record as the youngest player to represent the country at a European Championship by coming on in the 73rd minute against Wales on Thursday.
The score was 1-1 at the time, but Rashford ( who is aged 18 years and 229 days ) was unfazed and England went on to win 2-1.
Rashford was four days younger than Rooney was when the United and England captain played against France at Euro 2004.
Rooney told BBC Sport: "He will be delighted. I am really pleased for him. I have seen that it was 112 days ago that he made his debut for Manchester United and now he is playing on the biggest stage for England, so it's a great story and we're all pleased for him."
Rashford was one of the three attacking substitutions made by manager Roy Hodgson as England recovered from a 1-0 half-time deficit
against Wales.
The England youngster posted a picture of himself in action against Wales on his Instagram account. He said: "Amazing feeling to win the game like that. Fans were mad."

Earlier, Hodgson had also brought on Jamie Vardy and Daniel Sturridge, who both scored goals. Rooney said: "We know as a group of players we are not just an 11-man team.
"We have 23 players in our squad who are all capable and confident, and trust each other that we'll do a good job. It's shown in this match what a good squad we've got".
"In the first half, we have done okay, but we just had to move the ball quicker. We were unfortunate to go in at 1-0 down. In the second half, the manager made some positive changes and it paid off for us. I thought we were fantastic. We kept the ball well and kept probing and got the win in the end. We showed a lot of character."
The United captain has his sights set on sealing top spot in Group B now, having reached the summit following the win over Wales.
England are on four points, which puts them one point clear of both Wales and Slovakia and three ahead of Russia.
Rooney added: "It was a great feeling to win the game like we did and that will almost qualify us now. We'll have to finish the job on Monday [against Slovakia]."
